The first day - Bhogi

The second day – Pongal


On the second day of Pongal there is harvest celebration which is called as “Pongal’, in tamionadu, which is the very famous and important day of the entire festival, where prayers which is offered the sun. On this day, the sun is given great importance. In the morning of this day, the family will gather some place their houses and Cook ‘pongal’ in the clay pots.

The third day - Maatu Pongal
The third day which is called the Mattu Pongal, the day of Pongal for cow. There is a cow for the village people for using the milk and the bull which are draws the plough which in the fields are very valuable and therefore the farmers honour their dumb friends by celebrating it as the day of thanks-giving to them. The cattle are washed, their horns are painted and covered with shining metal caps.
